Motley’s new production in their ‘Story-telling on Stage’ series, a tribute to master satirist Krishan Chander consists of his famous short story ‘Gaddhaa (The hole) and selections from his celebrated works: ”Hindi ka Naya Qaida” and ”Ek Gadhhe ki Aatmakatha”. Highly popular for many decades among Hindi readers from the ’40s onwards, Krishan Chander’s short stories highlighted the plight of the common man in his struggle to survive. His puckish humor is reminiscent of the celebrated R.K. Laxman; his ”Autobiography of a Donkey” and its sequels were huge best sellers in their time. His writings are somewhat ignored now and this production is both a tribute, and an attempt to revive interest in one of India’s earliest and finest Urdu Satirists.
