Harivansh Rai Bachchan, the noted Indian poet of the Nayi Kavita literary movement (romantic upsurge) of the early 20th century Hindi literature, and most famously known for his brilliance in the poem Madhushala (The Tavern), has penned many great poems and couplets. Here is one of the couplets from his collection –

Kabhi phoolon ki tarah mat jeena
Jis din khiloge bikhar jaoge
Jeena hai toh pathar ban ke jeeyo
Kisi din tarashe gaye to Khuda ban jaoge

Rough English Translation

In living, don’t live like flowers
When they bloom, they are scattered everywhere
If you want to live well, then live like a stone
The day you are sought after, you will become God (like an idol of God)
