Darmiyaan is an Urdu/Persian word which means in-between or in the middle of something.

jamal-ehsaniHere is a sher by Jamal Ehsani that includes this lafz (source: rekhta.org) –
Yeh gham nahin ki hum dono ek ho na sake
Yeh ranj hai ki koi darmiyaan mein bhi na thaa

The sorrow is not in the fact that we couldn’t be together
The grief is that there wasn’t even anyone else between us (because of whom we couldnt be together)

Another popular use of this lafz has been in the song ‘bahon ke darmiyaan’ from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s beautiful film Khamoshi. Here is the first verse of the song:

Bahon ke darmiyaan, do pyaar mil rahe hai
Jaane kya, bole mann, dole sunke badan
Dhadkan bani zubaan

In the midst of an embrace, two lovers are uniting
No one knows what the hearts said in unison, that the bodies swayed together
And the heartbeats became the voice (the language of love)
