Protest poems or protest literature refers to works that address to real socio-political issues and express objection against them.
Urdu literature is usually associated with romantic literature and poetry but there is a huge body of work which addresses the socio political issues that have been potent at various junctures in history. There are rich and vibrant poems written by renowned poets such as Makhdoom Mohiuddin, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Josh Malihabadi, Jigar Muradabadi Kaifi Azmi, Jan Nisar Akhtar and many others which reflect how poets reacted to the political situations in their works.
At Mehfil we will read and discuss protest works written by renowned writers and poets.
