Jan Nisar Akhtar’s son Javed Akhtar has written lyrics for a very popular song ” Ek Ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga” One can feel the similarity in style and flavor between the two works of the Father and the Son.
aahat si koi aaye toh lagtaa hai ke tum ho
saayaa koi laharaaye toh lagtaa hai ke tum ho
jab shaakh koi haath lagaate hi chaman me
sharmaae lachak jaaye toh lagtaa hai ke tum ho
sadal se mahakati hui puraqaif hawaa kaa
jhokaa koi takaraaye toh lagtaa hai ke tum ho
odhe hue taaro ki chamakati hui chaadar
nadiyaa koi bal khaaye toh lagtaa hai ke tum ho
jab raat gaye koi kiran mere baraabar
chupachaap se so jaaye toh lagtaa hai ke tum ho
Translation:
When I hear the sound of footsteps, I feel like it is you.
When a wavering shadow is cast, I feel like it is you.
When someone touches a branch in the garden, and it softly shies away,I feel like it is you.
When the intoxicated fragrance of sandalwood, clashes with the blowing wind, I feel like it is you.
When the star lit sky, swerves the rivulets, I feel like it is you.
When at night a ray of light, comes and quietly sleeps besides me, I feel like it is you.
