In a gallery in Bandra, Mumbai named ‘ What About Art?’, there was an interesting curotorial exhibit by Khanabadosh (an itinerant arts lab ). This gallery which is like the living room of a cozy home in Bandra had displayed works by Aga Shahid Ali, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Sahir Ludhianvi,Mustansir Dalvi, Zohra Sehgal and many others.
The curator Gitanjali Dang had put together an ensemble based on the ironic conversation of the Taj Mahal. She explored the meaning of the monument, ownership, context, death, love, capitalism, language, cholera, poetry, conflict, Marxism and exile. The exhibition also included some of the earliest photographs of the Taj Mahal clicked by John Murray and Felicie Beato.
The video projection of Faiz Ahmed Faiz ‘s poem recited by Zohra Sehgal titled ” Mujh se pehli si mohabbat” and the Urdu script of Sahir Ludhianvi’s poem “Taj Mahal” added an interesting dimension to the space.
You will find both the poems mentioned above on our blog.
