Aadab,
We have been receiving several queries regarding Urdu classes that can be accessible to those living in South Bombay. In this regard, we approached Ustad Ibrahim Durwesh, an acclaimed Urdu professor who is happy to conduct classes at the home of a student. Ustad Ibrahim Durwesh, also known as the Phonetics Guru has trained students of Bharati Vidya Bhavan’s Dramatics Society, Koshore Namit Kapoor’s Acting Institute and Career Care Institute and has conducted workshops at Film and Television Institute, Pune and Zee TV.
Here are the details:
Alif@Urduwallahs: Worli or Colaba
Total sessions required: Total 12 of 2 hours each
Frequency: Once a week, mostly on Saturday or Sunday mornings
Batch size: Need a minimum of 5 students (we currently have 2 already signed up)
Charges: Rs 12000 per student, for all sessions, provided there are 5 students in the batch. While this may appear steep, Ibrahim Durvesh saab guarantees that students will be able to read, write and speak Urdu correctly (scientifically and phonetically) at the end of 12 sessions (provided we follow his instructions and complete are homework :). As is required when learning any new language or skill, practice will be the key)
Possible location currently shortlisted – Worli or Colaba. We are open to other locations in South Bombay as well, in case any participant would like to offer their place for the weekly session.

Alif@Urduwallahs Update:
The classes at Malad are now in full swing and we are receiving very enthusiastic responses from the new Urduwallahs who are getting acquainted with the language. Stay tuned for more updates.
We are stationed at navi mumbai. We would like to have classes in Urdu. Is there a possibility if we are able to garner 5 students. Is it also possible that school students can join this course? Is there an age limit? We can offer our office board room on any evening which can easily accommodate even 10 persons.
Hello Bharat – request you to drop in a line at urduwallahs@gmail.com and we will connect you to Akkta, who is helping us coordinate Urdu classes around the city. Anybody can join the classes, though it is not a school curriculum class, but more to understand and appreciate the language of Urdu. Thanks.
I am an ardent lover of Urdu language and very keen to learn it
so as to understand and appreciate the beauty of Urdu couplets,
ghazals and poems. I am a resident of Kandivli, Mumbai and a
senior citizen. I remember and recite a lot of couplets/ghazals among
my friends and in my music circles but am unable to do so with perfect
pronunciation. Please suggest me the right source of learning this
beautiful language. My email address is : shethyatin@gmail.com
