Prolific writer Saadat Hasan Manto has a canvas splashed with eclectic colours. At Neel Restaurant we bring you Manto and his Mumbai experience. Manto and the Mumbai confluence happen seamlessly in literature and in cuisine. Manto spent his young life in Mumbai, which according to him were the most enjoyable of his short and brittle life. Manto lived in the Claire road neighbourhood and the body of work brings out the monotony of Bombay life in the 1940’s in a glamorous and enticing fashion.
The evening at Neel Restaurant will commence with a performance in a seamless blend of Urdu and English readings by the Urduwallahs based on Manto and his alluring yet controversial works using the City of Mumbai the backdrop. After an insight into Manto’s Mumbai, the evening will progress into a Manto-themed Tasting menu from the Neel kitchen, which will blend in Manto’s vibrant background and personality with the inherent Mumbai palette and flavours.
