Raghupati Sahay (28 August 1896 – 3 March 1982), better known under his pen name Firaq Gorakhpuri, was a writer, critic, and one of the most noted contemporary Urdu poets from India.
Given below is one of his poems:Raat bhar husn pe aaye bhi gaye bhi sau rang, Shaam se ishq abhi tak nigraan hai jo tha Aankh jhapki ke udhar khatam hua roz-e-wasaal, Phir bhi is din pe qayaamat ka gumaan hai jo tha. Teera bakhti nahin jaati dil-e-sozaan ki, Firaq Shama ke sar par wohi aaj dhuaan hai jo tha. Translation: Beauty changed a hundred hues in the course of the night, Love has had to wait and wait, as heretofore. The day of union flies away in the twinkling of an eye, Yet it looks like the day of doom, as heretofore. The dark night of the burning heart seems to have no end, The candle wears a crown of smoke, as heretofore.
